Hellesdon Parish Council

The council was stuck with an old website it could not update, and that did not meet the standards a council is actually held to. A parish council is not a business with a brochure site: it is bound by the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018, and by transparency duties to publish agendas, minutes, budgets, spending and audit papers somewhere residents can genuinely find them. Hellesdon Parish Council is the elected local authority for Hellesdon, a parish on the northern edge of Norwich, governed by 16 councillors across two wards, and it needed a site that met those duties and that the clerk could maintain without ringing anybody. The old one failed on both counts.

A full WordPress rebuild — Elementor for the pages the clerk edits week to week, custom code underneath for the parts a page builder does not cover. The structure follows the council’s duties rather than a template: councillors and committees, a meetings calendar with agendas and minutes, a finance and transparency section carrying budgets, spending and audit papers, community facility and booking information, planning documents, local service guidance (bins, roads, reporting a problem) and news and notices. Accessibility was a requirement rather than a nice-to-have, so the build meets the 2018 regulations and publishes the accessibility statement they oblige. The result is a site the council runs itself, and one that stands up to the standards it is measured against.
