Apple Maps is the default mapping app on every iPhone, iPad, and Mac. With over a billion active Apple devices worldwide, it’s a major discovery platform that millions of people use daily to find local businesses, check opening times, and get directions. Yet many businesses have never thought to claim or optimise their Apple Maps listing.
Apple’s tool for managing business listings is called Apple Business Connect, and it’s completely free to use. Setting up your listing means that when someone uses Siri to find a local service, searches Apple Maps, or uses any Apple app that displays local business information, your business appears correctly with accurate, up-to-date details.
Why Apple Maps matters for local businesses
In the UK, iPhones account for roughly half of all smartphones in use. Among under-35s the proportion is even higher. All of these devices default to Apple Maps for navigation — and increasingly for local business discovery. When an iPhone user asks Siri "find a plumber near me" or searches "coffee shop open now", Apple Maps is what generates the results.
Apple Maps data also feeds into a growing number of other Apple services: Siri Suggestions, Spotlight Search, Calendar, and the Wallet app all draw on business listing data. A correct and verified Apple Business Connect listing ensures your business is represented accurately across all of these touchpoints.
Unlike Google Business Profile, Apple Maps has received far less attention from the SEO and marketing world, which means many businesses still haven’t claimed their listing. That represents an opportunity — there’s less competition for visibility on Apple Maps than on Google in many markets.
How to set up your Apple Business Connect listing
Go to businessconnect.apple.com and sign in with your Apple ID. Search for your business — Apple’s database already contains many businesses, so there’s a good chance your business exists but is unclaimed. If it does, you’ll claim it and verify ownership. If not, you’ll create a new listing from scratch.
Verification is typically done by phone or by SMS to the business’s listed number. Once verified, you can edit all your business details: name, address, phone number, website, categories, opening hours, and a business description. You can also upload photos to your listing.
Apple Business Connect also offers a "Showcases" feature — a Highlights section on your listing where you can promote offers, events, and updates. These function similarly to GBP posts and allow you to share timely information with Apple Maps users. Add your business hours including special hours for bank holidays, and link to your booking system or ordering platform if applicable.
Keeping your listing accurate and active
Once your Apple Business Connect listing is set up, maintain it as you would your Google Business Profile. Update opening hours for public holidays, change your phone number or address if your business moves, and add new photos periodically. An accurate listing prevents customer frustration and reflects well on your business.
If your business has multiple locations, Apple Business Connect supports multi-location management through a single account. You can manage all your listings centrally and update shared information — like brand name or logo — across all sites at once.
Apple Maps is increasingly incorporating user reviews and ratings, pulling from third-party sources like Yelp and TripAdvisor. While you can’t currently collect native reviews through Apple Maps the way you can on Google, ensuring your presence on linked review platforms is strong will improve how your business appears to Apple Maps users.
