Web Design for UK Charities — Engage Supporters and Drive Donations Online

A charity website that tells your story powerfully and makes giving effortless can transform what you’re able to achieve.

For a charity, your website is more than a marketing tool — it’s the place where supporters decide whether to give, where volunteers sign up, where beneficiaries find help, and where funders assess your credibility. It needs to do all of those jobs simultaneously, for very different audiences, without becoming confusing or overwhelming.

At Xpose, based in Norwich, we build websites for charities and not-for-profit organisations across the UK that communicate impact clearly, make donating and volunteering as frictionless as possible, and give funders and corporate partners the information they need to support you with confidence. We understand that charity budgets require every pound to work hard — and we build websites designed to do exactly that.

Communicating impact and building trust

Donors give to causes they believe in and organisations they trust. Your website needs to establish both: clear, compelling communication of what problem you exist to solve, who benefits from your work, and what difference a donation actually makes. Vague mission statements and abstract goals don’t move people to act — specific stories, concrete numbers, and genuine beneficiary voices do.

We help charities build websites that lead with impact: case studies and stories that put a human face on the work, data visualised in an accessible way, and a clear line drawn between a donation and a tangible outcome. A donor who understands exactly what their £25 a month will fund is far more likely to give — and to give regularly.

Making donations easy and secure

Every extra step in the donation process reduces the number of people who complete it. We build charity websites with the donation journey at their core — prominent calls to action on every key page, a streamlined giving form that doesn’t ask for unnecessary information, and clear options for one-off and regular giving. We integrate with established payment platforms — Stripe, PayPal, GoCardless — so donors can give securely without leaving your site.

Gift Aid is an important consideration for most UK charities — we make the Gift Aid declaration prominent, clear, and easy to complete, and we ensure your donation system captures the data you need to make successful claims. For charities that run specific fundraising campaigns, we can create dedicated campaign pages that combine storytelling, progress trackers, and a direct donation flow.

Recruiting volunteers and engaging your community

Volunteers are often as valuable as financial donations, and your website should make signing up to volunteer as easy as making a donation. We create clear volunteer pages that explain what roles are available, what’s involved, and what the experience of volunteering with your organisation is like. A simple sign-up form — capturing the information you actually need without overwhelming applicants — is the gateway to a larger volunteer base.

For charities with an active community, we can integrate event listings, a news section, and email newsletter sign-up to keep supporters engaged between campaigns. A supporter who feels connected to your work through regular communication is significantly more likely to give again and to recruit others to your cause.

SEO, accessibility and funder credibility

Many charities underinvest in search engine optimisation, missing out on organic traffic from people searching for the services they provide or causes they care about. We build charity websites with solid SEO foundations — structured content, fast loading, correct technical setup — so you can be found by people who are actively looking for what you do.

Accessibility is non-negotiable for charity websites, which often serve beneficiaries with a wide range of needs. We build to WCAG 2.1 AA standards as a baseline, ensuring your site is usable by people with visual, motor, or cognitive impairments. That commitment also demonstrates to funders that your organisation is serious about inclusion — Xpose can document your compliance for grant applications where required.

FAQs

Common questions.

Can we handle donations directly on our website, or do we need to use a platform like JustGiving?
You can absolutely handle donations directly — and for regular giving especially, it’s usually better to do so. Direct donations mean lower transaction fees, more control over the donor relationship, and no platform branding diluting your own. JustGiving and similar platforms are excellent for campaign fundraising and peer-to-peer events, but your website should be your primary channel for one-off and regular gifts.
We have a very limited budget. What should we prioritise?
Focus first on the donation journey and your impact communication — those two elements will drive the most value. A clear, compelling homepage that explains what you do and makes it easy to give, a streamlined donation page, and one or two strong impact stories will outperform a large, complex site built on a small budget. We work with charities of all sizes and can advise on a phased approach that gets the essentials right first.
How do we demonstrate credibility to grant-making bodies through our website?
Funders look for several things: a clear description of your charitable objects and governance, information about your trustees and leadership team, links to your filed accounts and annual reports, and evidence of the impact your work has. We help charities create a dedicated “About us” or “Governance” section that puts all of this information in one place, making due diligence straightforward for potential funders.
